Successful relationships between individuals are unique their pairing up. In order to build relationships, people start out with a tentative and fragile approach that starts out slowly and then begins to grow. With time, experience and familiarity begin to take their hold on the relationship as it matures with trust and commitment. Ultimately a strong bond in the relationship grows as does the rewards from it. When it becomes abundantly clear that a solid bond has been created, the relationship takes on a mutually rewarding and self-perpetuating environment. As times goes on this type of relationship enjoys increased strength and trust.
The first step to build relationships is visibility. You and the other individual first become aware of each other. In the business sense this comes about by advertising and referrals or the business customer becomes aware of the nature of your business. In many instances this connection can be orchestrated by various public relations activities or even through a mutual acquaintance. Being noticed by your potential customer while you are conducting your business is another way business relationships spark. Next, the two of you begin to communicate and establish links. When this happens you start personal acquaintance and work on a first name basis.
Visibility must me actively maintained and developed in order to move on in your efforts to build relationships and moving on to the next level; credibility. Credibility is created by showcasing your reliability and delivery on promises. During this phase of the relationship expectations begin to form between you and your business partner. When actions are taken, appointments met and services are rendered, credibility grows. Keep in mind that old saying action speaks louder than words. Failure to keep explicit and implied promises can doom a relationship before it has a chance to blossom. This is not the visibility your business will ever want.
Once you become adept at how to build business relationships you can begin to examine from a business perspective whether or not your business is enjoying profitability. Is your business relationship mutually rewarding for you and your client? Is it self-sustaining by providing benefits for the both of you? Since the time it takes to develop a successful business relationship can vary greatly. Whether it is credibility or profitability it can take a year or overnight for a relationship to come together. It depends on the desire of both parties to move the relationship in a positive and trusting forward direction.

I Love the way you break this down Liam. Business relationships are so important. Although it takes time to reach this level of connection, it is time very well spent.
